THE 10 SELECTED TEAMS

  • PANGAEA X

    BAMS

By using renewable energies such as hydrogen, BAMS offers a special kit replacing older polluting engines on boats with more sustainable and silent ones.

  • PANGAEA X

    ENEREEF

Enereef aims to be a multienergetic renewable structure with an artificial reef at its base in order to provide green energy at the service of biodiversity.

    AU BORD
    DE L’EAU

The objective of AU BORD DE L’EAU is to protect corals by limiting their greatest threat: sunscreens. No product currently on the market is safe for the environment. We want to create a sunscreen without negative impact on marine biodiversity. We have even taken our idea a step further: a sunscreen that benefits corals and helps them grow, an ecopositive sunscreen.

    MERSEE

MerSee is a collaborative solution, based on AI to help authorities detect, act and charge illegal behavior on the ocean.

    PLASTIC TO
    BRICK

Industries, which use recycled plastic as raw materials to create various objects, don’t actually have enough income materials to do so. Our project comes with a solution: the production of  these raw materials locally and cost effectively. How do we do it? By collecting plastic waste directly from the source, either from companies, industries, or shops. What’s more? We create local processing networks, using sorting state-of-the-art technologies. The best thing about our project? There is less plastic waste on land and therefore even less in the ocean.

  • PANGAEA X

    OYSTER

Oyster aims to preserve marine ecosystems and their biodiversity by reusing shell waste. By using empty oyster shells, the local business will design relocation supports for endangered marine species based on a circular economy.

  • PANGAEA X

    OKEANOS

Okeanos aims to change the textile industry by providing a new type of sustainable filter. This filter will purify textile wastewater from chemicals and limit the impact on biodiversity.

  • PANGAEA X

    ALGOCLIP

Algoclip aims to reduce water pollution by eliminating heavy metals contained in cigarettes. Their solution will also allow them to easily collect cigarette butts from the oceans.

  • PANGAEA X

    BIONET

BioNet aims to create the first fishing net made entirely of natural material. It is 100% biodegradable and decomposes in just under a year. Its goal is to limit the amount of plastic dumped in the oceans and to reduce considerably ghost fishing.

KICK-OFF – 8TH TO 11TH OF APRIL 2022

After being selected by the jury, the 10 teams of the Pangaea X program traveled to Lausanne, Switzerland, to begin the 5-month program. The teams met at the Aquatis Hotel to begin the intensive 3-day workshop accompanied by their coaches and various experts. To develop each idea, the teams used innovation and self-development methods inspired by Design Thinking.

  • DAY 1

The first day started with Mike Horn’s intervention. He highlighted the importance of discipline in the success of impact projects.

The teams then had the opportunity to listen to Alexandre Osterwalder, the co-founder of Strategyzer, who explained the importance of failure for success. “We all start with an idea and try to get to the point of creating a real organization. The classic approach is to create a business plan. But the entrepreneurial journey is never linear. We move forward, we regress, our project can die. If we survive, our idea will go all the way! The most important thing in this journey is to accept that, when you start up, uncertainty is at a maximum. You have to remain humble.”

Each team then met with their coach to work on the different phases of the canvas. On the first day, participants focused on the environment and empathy phases.

  • DAY 2

Saturday, 7:30 am: the participants took the the bus to the Domaine de Pra Roman to continue the development of the projects in a place surrounded by nature and greenery. Warming up, rock-paper-scissors contest, various exercises helped the teams start off their day ! The teams then started the ideation and hypothesis phases accompanied by their coaches. In order to best prepare their final pitch, the teams attended Bremtane Moudjeb’s intervention, the public speaking coach, who gave his best advice to succeed in public speaking.

  • DAY 3

On the last day of the workshop, each team had to pitch their project: once in 30 seconds while walking with Mike Horn and once in 5 minutes in front of two members of the jury, Marco Simoeni and Olivier Ferrari, and a camera. This exercise allowed the participants to get used to speaking and also allowed the jury to determine the progress of the projects. In the afternoon, we returned to Pra Roman for an outdoor activity with Mike Horn. The teams had to fight for the first place during an orientation race! Each team was composed of participants who had only known each other for 2 days. The goal was to test everyone’s team spirit but also to have fun!

For the last evening of the kick-off, the participants made a fire to warm up but also to cook. With the risotto found during the orientation race, they cooked, together, their dinner. The participants shared this evening to get to know each other.
