THEMES

ACT LOCAL, THINK GLOBAL

This year, our theme is “Act Local, Think Global” and we are specifically focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7, 12, 14, and 15.

The idea behind “Act Local, Think Global” is to encourage you to take action on environmental issues at the local level while also considering the global impact of their actions. By “acting local”, you can take immediate action to address pressing environmental issues in your own communities, while also contributing to global efforts to address these issues.

Your solutions

The health of the ecosystems that we and other species depend on is degrading faster than ever. So, are you ready to take on the challenge?

We are looking for projects that not only address pressing environmental issues at the local level, but also consider the global impact of their actions. We encourage you to think creatively and come up with solutions that are economically sustainable, meaning that they should be able to generate revenue and be self-sufficient over time.

We are eager to listen to you if you have a project idea that is in line with this theme.

Example of solutions

  • Affordable and Clean Energy

    SDG 7

Example of project : Developing a community-based renewable energy project that provides affordable and clean energy to local residents while also reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.

Economically sustainable : through the sale of excess energy to the grid or through the implementation of a pay-per-use system for local residents.

  • Responsible Consumption and Production

    SDG 12

Example of project : Implementing a sustainable waste management system in a local community that encourages residents to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials, while also promoting sustainable consumption and production practices.

Economically sustainable : by generating revenue through the sale of recycled materials or by implementing a pay-per-use system for waste collection and processing.

  • Life Below Water

    SDG 14

Example of project : Creating a local marine conservation project that engages young people in protecting and preserving coastal ecosystems, while also raising awareness about the importance of ocean conservation on a global scale.

Economically sustainable : by generating revenue through eco-tourism or by implementing sustainable fishing practices that provide an income for local fishermen.

  • Life on Land

    SDG 15

Example of project : Developing a local reforestation project that engages young people in planting and protecting trees, while also promoting sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation on a global scale.
Economically sustainable :  By generating revenue through the sale of sustainably harvested timber or by implementing agroforestry practices that provide an income for local farmers.
