PANGAEA X
2022

A look back at 2022 : Pangaea X first edition

Journey with us to the year 2022, a year that marked the dawn of a transformative adventure. It all began on January 9th, when Pangaea X set sail on its inaugural voyage. Our mission was clear, and our focus was resolute – ocean conservation. We set out to ignite environmental consciousness within French-speaking communities across Europe (between 16 to 25 y.o), laying the foundation for a global transformation slated for 2023.

As we ventured forward, ten exceptional teams emerged from a passionate pool of applicants. These teams embarked on a transformative journey, guided by a team of ten dedicated coaches.

After 6 months of dedication and innovation, 5 teams emerged as finalists. They not only secured recognition for their outstanding efforts but also received prizes that would further their commitment to ocean conservation.

Themes : What if we innovated to preserve our oceans?

  • Reducing marine pollution

  • PROTECT AND RESTORE MARINE ECOSYSTEMS

  • THE DEVELOPING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

  • PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE FISHING

  • Limiting plastic waste

The heartbeat of Pangaea X 2022 was encapsulated in a resounding theme: “Protect Our Oceans.” It was a powerful call to action, an invitation for passionate individuals to unite in the protection of our oceans, recognizing them as vital ecosystems in need of our care and attention.

We want to create a sunscreen without negative impact on marine biodiversity. We have even taken our idea a step further: a sunscreen that benefits corals and helps them grow, an ecopositive sunscreen.

      MERSEE

MerSee is a collaborative solution, based on AI to help authorities detect, act and charge illegal behavior on the ocean.

    • PANGAEA X

      PLASTIC TO
      BRICK

Industries, which use recycled plastic as raw materials to create various objects, don’t actually have enough income materials to do so. Our project comes with a solution: the production of  these raw materials locally and cost effectively. How do we do it? By collecting plastic waste directly from the source, either from companies, industries, or shops. What’s more? We create local processing networks, using sorting state-of-the-art technologies. The best thing about our project? There is less plastic waste on land and therefore even less in the ocean.

    • PANGAEA X

      OKEANOS

Okeanos aims to change the textile industry by providing a new type of sustainable filter. This filter will purify textile wastewater from chemicals and limit the impact on biodiversity.

    • PANGAEA X

      ALGOCLIP

Algoclip aims to reduce water pollution by eliminating heavy metals contained in cigarettes. Their solution will also allow them to easily collect cigarette butts from the oceans.

    • PANGAEA X

      BIONET

BioNet aims to create the first fishing net made entirely of natural material. It is 100% biodegradable and decomposes in just under a year. Its goal is to limit the amount of plastic dumped in the oceans and to reduce considerably ghost fishing.

      CATHY AWARD

      OYSTER

Mike often says that without his wife Cathy, he would not be the man we know today. Responsible for the logistics, financing and communication of all his expeditions, Cathy’s unconditional support allowed Mike to stand out and make himself known to a global audience. She passed away from cancer in 2015, and we would like to honor her by presenting the “Cathy’s Award” to the team that best communicates and publicizes their project.

Team Oyster stood out for their communication. Not only are they active on social media, they are also present in the most traditional media.

Thank you to IMMAT for providing this team with video and photo equipment worth CHF 4000.

    • PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

      ENEREEF

The winning team was chosen by the audience of more than 300 people present at Station F, on September 16, in Paris.

Enereef won the public’s choix prize! Thanks to their charisma and their project of artificial reefs based on offshore wind turbines, they were able to convince the audience.

Thank you to Creatives who will be giving a communications workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland.
